A holiday table essential for over 175 years, festive crackers originated in England in the 1840s, in the charming confectionery shops of London.
Victorian era confectioners used brightly coloured paper to package their treats - twisted at each end in the fashion of delightful French “bon-bons”. As tokens of affection, shopkeepers began selling goodies in small elegantly wrapped tubes, adding a simple love note or poem to each little package.
Legend has it that the crackle of a fireplace yule log was the inspiration to add a “pop” when the wrapping was pulled apart. The addition of a paper crown, novelty toys and prizes from around the world and the Festive Cracker was born!
